The Elongated Tree Ants dart quickly from branches of trees and bushes.  These ants fall out of trees and onto people, painfully stinging them.  Also known as the "neck bitter", they appeared in the 1960's quickly spreading throughout Southern Florida.

The colonies are small with only one queen.  Their nests are usually in hollow twigs and dried grass.  These ants are rarely seen inside.
